March 17 2005: I just had the E&G Classics stainless grille installed today. No pics yet but there will be, including close-ups of the mesh itself.
I didn't do the install myself. I've heard enough of how its a pain in the neck from other Magnum owners. My local shop quoted me a provisional $40 to do the install, and that was a ballpark cheap enough that I decided to let them do it. Final cost: $60.
I picked up the grille itself on Ebay for $215, including shipping. One thing worth noting is this grille is both an upper AND a lower, so it covers the otherwise wide-open opening in the front spoiler. This makes for a nice appearance accent.
Its also made very well. The mesh is nice and heavy without being monolithic. Its also more open than the stock inserts. I imagine that this will improve airflow to the engine -- and more importantly to the engine intake and the metal intake tube. However I have nothing in the way of data to test this theory. Still, having less restriction can't be all that bad of a thing :-) .
I decided to leave the grille in its original bright stainless finish, rather than powder-coating it black with a 20% shine as I had originally planned. I decided I can always do this later if I decide I do want to black out the front. Especially since I plan on having a body shop work on the fron end when I put on an air-induction hood in a couple of months (given the Magnum's metallic flake paint, the fenders and front fascia will have to be oversprayed).
About that stainless finish. Its... well, its stainless and not chrome. Seems a bit out of place when all of the other bare metal on this car is chrome (the wheels). For all I know I may chrome the thing rather than black it out.
