Episode IV: The Empire Strikes Back So far my bill for exhaust work was low enough I could live with chucking it out the window. But this next step takes me over the edge. I had to get it right here or risk an aneurism when I have to try yet again. What to do?
The tail end of this saga is awaiting some more pics, taken of the car when its on the ground. In brief:
- I put on a Zoomers Exhaust. Never heard of them? Me neither but a lot of Magnum owners are discovering this company and I heard about it thru them.
- It kicks ass, soundwise. No drone.
- Its probably the most expensive option out there, but I have no regrets.
- I ran a 1/4 mile that more or less matched my previous times, so I know I didn't lose any performance. Except for one thing. I goofed and ran the 1/4 mile with all my windows down. If I had rolled them up I may have had my best time ever.
- Want to know what they sound like? Here is a pretty decent video with sound.
To ensure it streams properly when you play it back (its a 14mb file) right click on the link and choose "Save Target As..." and then play it back from your desktop. Otherwise it will suck.
Zoomers exhausts have been extensively discussed in detail in the Intake/Exhaust/Performance section at lxforums.com, where dozens of Magnum owners have installed them. You can also hear a similar set of discussions and experiences -- also by dozens of owners -- over at 300Cforums.com. In short, the Zoomers are technically the best free-flowing exhaust option on the market (look thru one end of one of their canister mufflers and you can see right out the other side) and they sound KILLER!. Some have claimed the Zoomers sound a bit refined, but the Ferrari-like tone deepens to more of a muscle-car sound over time. The Zoomers in the video link have been on the car for about six weeks.
For a nice technical look at what goes on inside them, check out this link on the Zoomers site.
